“Dance is music made visible,” said George Balanchine, one of the most influential 20th century ballet choreographers and co-founder of the New York City Ballet. It is an expression of emotions, thoughts, and ideas done through movement and rhythm.

There are hundreds of dance styles around the world; it is the heartbeat of every culture and the history that shapes our world today. From Disco to Hip-Hop and Two-Step to Tap, there is truly a style for all abilities, all interests, and all musical preferences. Dance embraces multiple genres, styles, and traditions and is constantly evolving.

The common misconception with dance is that you need years of training or experience to participate. That is 100% false. Yes, there may be a series of steps taught to you Instructor in dance poseby the instructor but think of it as your own unique and completely individual expression. With that mentality, you’ll soon learn that there are no wrong moves and or such thing as mistakes. Be confident in yourself and commit to whatever steps make you happy – even if it’s completely different than what the rest of the class is doing and you’re off in your own little world “shakin’ your thaaang” in the back!

Dance isn’t supposed to be stressful, it’s supposed to be a stress reliever. Don’t take yourself overly seriously and just let the beat of the music take over.

Don’t Think. Just Dance!
