Dear Colleagues,

As we begin the last full month of Fall Term, I wanted to update you all on leadership changes in Student Affairs.

I am very pleased that Chandelle Rimmer has accepted appointment as Interim Associate Vice-President, Students. Chandelle has for some time been Associate Dean in Student Affairs and has broad knowledge of the operation. As you will remember, we recently added a second AD in that portfolio, and I am grateful for the ongoing work of Dr. Joanne Minaker in her new role. Dr. Minaker served for two terms as an Associate Dean in Arts and Science where she dealt with many student issues.

To add some additional capacity during this period of transition, Dr. Sherif Elbarrad has agreed to join Student Affairs as an Interim Associate Dean on January 1, 2024. Dr. Elbarrad has been an Associate Dean in the School of Business where, as well, he has undertaken much work in providing support for students.

These moves follow the departure of Tim Tang, who has taken an administrative role elsewhere.

These interim appointments in Student Affairs will likely run through June 2025. We have two senior administrative searches underway in Academic Affairs at the moment, and the University will be well served to launch a national search for the next AVP, Students at the beginning of the 2024-25 academic year.

In the meantime, we are fortunate to have such experienced colleagues with a deep commitment to MacEwan University and its students. I know you will all provide support to them over the next eighteen months.

Dr. Craig Monk
Provost & Vice-President, Academic
