Yesterday, the province released Budget 2023, Securing Alberta’s Future. Under the themes of Boosting Alberta’s advantage and Building Alberta’s workforce, the government highlighted investments that provide Albertans with education and training opportunities.

The budget maintains MacEwan’s operating grant. Funding for mental health and students with disabilities has also remained stable. We are pleased to see a $1.5 million increase to Capital Maintenance and Renewal funding.

Monday’s announcement of the government’s support of our new School of Business building is featured in the budget. The government has committed $125 million over four years in support of our bold vision and commitment to delivering unparalleled undergraduate teaching experiences.

The post-secondary sector will see further competitive funding for which we will submit proposals. This includes a $111 million increase over three years to support targeted post-secondary enrolment expansion in high demand sectors, such as non-trade, construction, energy, and business. Over the next three years, an additional $95 million will be dedicated to help address the shortage of health-care workers in the province. Both of these announcements bode well for our university. We will continue to grow – our perpetual motion – as we seek to access these opportunities in alignment with our vision of Teaching Greatness.

My thanks to all of you for your dedication to our students – and for all that you do to achieve our vision of Teaching Greatness.

Dr. Annette Trimbee

President and Vice-Chancellor
