Mental Health Week is January 23 to 27, 2023

January 23 to 27 is Mental Health Week on campus. This year’s theme is Self-Care Isn’t Selfish and there are some incredible events being planned with programming designed to help you maintain and strengthen your mental health.

Below is a list of the events that are specific to staff and faculty. We hope you will take some time to explore these options and take advantage of the opportunities.

1. Webinar – C.A.R.E.: A Framework for Mental Health Check-ins with Headversity

Description: This session provides an in-depth look at C.A.R.E., a framework for mental health check-ins. You will learn how to structure a two-way mental health conversation, how to lower the stakes, and also help strategize how to build continuity and trust. Above all, it gives organizations an evidence-based methodology to safely, confidently, and privately have a mental health conversation in the workplace.

2. Webinar: Lighten up your Day

Description: Injecting humour into both work and your personal life is just what the doctor orders. Laughing does not just feel good, it also has a positive effect on health by helping relieve stress, tension and anxiety, and by increasing your heart rate and blood circulation. Humour also offers far-reaching psychological benefits, as finding the lighter side of a difficult situation can instantly dispel negativity and better enable you to overcome challenging problems and conflicts. This seminar will highlight the benefits of adding humour into participants’ lives and discuss appropriate ways of incorporating it into the workplace.

3. Webinar: Fundamentals of Energy Management with Headversity

Description: Managing our energy is critical to how we show up every day in our personal and professional lives. Energy management includes three pillars: sleep, nutrition and exercise. This booster session, delivered online by headversity, will help give you some ground rules for maximizing your energy management and above all, your mood.

4. Online Session: The Working Mind – Employees

Description: This Mental Health Week, attend The Working Mind to learn about mental health and strategies for positive mental health. The Working Mind program promotes mental health awareness, reduces the stigma of mental illness in the workplace, and provides participants with knowledge and skills for supporting mental wellness. This workshop is open to all MacEwan Employees.

When: January 26, 2023 | 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

5. Online Session: The Working Mind – Leaders

Description: This Mental Health Week, attend The Working Mind to learn about mental health and strategies for positive mental health. This session focuses on a leader’s role in stewarding mental health with their team and will focus on leadership responsibilities as well as MacEwan policy and practice. This session is open to those who have formal responsibilities for leading people. Completion of Modules 1-3 (The Working Mind – Employees) is a pre-requisite to attend. 

When: January 27, 2023 | 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
