MacEwan’s travel restrictions will be ending, as scheduled, on August 31. As a result, faculty, staff and students can again request and have international travel approved. However, there are a few conditions people still must follow.

First is that not all borders have reopened, and so approval will be contingent on a border being open prior to the date of travel. For example, while a faculty member could apply to attend a conference in the US in November, Canadians currently cannot enter the US for non-essential travel. Should the US open their borders for Canadians by November, the faculty member would be able to travel to the US. Obviously travel to some countries is more problematic than others. The Government of Canada Global Travel Advisory website is the best source for all information related to global travel on the Travel Advice and Advisories segment of the Travel.gc.ca website.

Second, people are responsible for any additional requirements related to travel. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test that is required to enter a foreign country or to return to Canada are the responsibility of the traveler. Travelers should confirm vaccination requirements needed for a country prior to booking travel.

Finally, people need to be aware that border openings and travel approval could change very quickly. If travel is approved today but borders close again next month, then any approvals would of course be revoked.
