Did you know that choosing your benefits is just the first step? Once the annual benefits enrollment window has closed, there are still some things to know and do to get the most from your benefits.

Note the effective date and how to update your coverage

If you did not make any changes during annual enrolment, your benefit coverage will remain the same for the upcoming year.

New benefit choices are effective on January 1.
Note: all new benefit choices will be updated in the claims system after the first week of January. To allow for the system processing time, you may need to pay out of pocket for a claim then submit the claim online for reimbursement.

Benefit choices can be updated every fall through the annual benefit enrolment process or at any time if you experience an eligible life event.

Register for GroupNet and download the mobile app

You can register for Canada Life’s GroupNet for Plan Members. Make sure to download the GroupNet Mobile app.

Sign and submit beneficiary forms

Ensure you have signed and submitted any outstanding beneficiary forms to bas@canadalife.com.

Use your health spending account to pay your premiums

If you have health and dental premiums deducted from your biweekly pay, you can submit the premiums you have paid to your Health Spending Account for reimbursement by logging into myPortal.MacEwan.ca and running the Benefits Premium Report from PeopleSoft Employee Self-Service. This report will serve as your receipt.

You can mail in your claim or submit it online (but note that this option is not available on the Mobile App).

To make your claim:

  1. On the left-hand side, select “Make a Claim”
  2. Scroll down and select “Start a Paper Claim”
  3. Scroll down to Step 4, select “Other Health, Dental and Drug claims”
  4. Scroll down to Plan – select “Health Spending Account (HSA)”
  5. Scroll down to “Add a Document.”  Upload your HSA Premium Reimbursement Form (make sure your click HSA Only as premiums can only be claimed under this option) and your Canada Life Health Spending Account Claim form and hit submit.
  6. Detailed information is available in your Benefits Booklet, which you can download from the myPortal.MacEwan.ca under Pay & Benefits.
