I am pleased to announce that Dr. Allan Gilliland will serve a second term as Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications, through June 30, 2026.

Dr. Annette Trimbee, MacEwan University President, accepted the unanimous recommendation of the reappointment committee assembled under University policy. I am grateful to Annetta Latham, Dr. Iain Macpherson, Dr. David McLaughlin, Dr. Heather McRae, Dr. Eva Revitt, Dawn Sadoway, Aubrianna Snow and Christine Valentine, committee members who undertook the important work of reviewing Dr. Gilliland’s reappointment application and providing a recommendation. I am also grateful to members of the University community who provided input to the process and, in particular, those knowledgeable colleagues from FFAC who provided feedback on the Dean’s dossier.

Dr. Gilliland will, of course, continue in his academic appointment in the Department of Music, as a Full Professor. Over the course of his initial term as Dean, he has overseen considerable program development in FFAC, as Allard Hall has realized its promise as a world-class facility for our students and faculty, and he has continued his own creative output as a composer of international renown.

It is my privilege to know him and to work with him, and I look forward to serving with Dr. Gilliland in the years to come.

Please do feel to reach out to him at GillilandA@macewan.ca to offer your congratulations.

Dr. Craig Monk
