As part of the MacEwan Relaunch Plan, and our commitment to you that we will react to the changing circumstances of COVID-19, I am writing to provide an important update, effective August 5, masks or face coverings are required at all times in all indoor public spaces and in all non-public spaces where physical distancing of two metres cannot be maintained when on university property. This change aligns with the recommendations of the Chief Medical Officer of Health on the use of masks, and the City of Edmonton bylaw.

Ensuring the safety of ourselves and others is a shared responsibility. When we work together and wear masks, we create a safer campus and contribute to ending COVID-19 in the wider community. Masks or face coverings must cover the mouth, nose and chin and be durable enough to allow them to function effectively for the entire time the individual is on university property.

A Communicable Diseases and Pandemic Policy has been approved and includes the Mask or Face Covering Standard which is effective until December 31, 2020 unless extended or revoked by Executive Council. As a reminder, all policies and standards are to be followed as part of the employee code of conduct. Please ensure that you have a mask or face covering before coming to campus. Masks are available for purchase in the bookstore or online at MacEwanBookStore.com.

Please review the policy and standard which includes information on exemptions and accommodations on myPortal or the MacEwan policy webpage. If you have further questions, please contact your direct supervisor or the Health, Safety and Environment office at HSE@macewan.ca.

Your ongoing cooperation and support of our safe campus is appreciated.
