Starting in Fall 2020, MacEwan University faculty, staff and students will be able to register for a Grammarly Premium account for free. An email invitation will be sent out in early September.

Unlike other spell and grammar checking software, Grammarly provides writers with explanations of errors, and its site offers many learning resources related to grammar, punctuation and style. Writers are given the opportunity to learn how to avoid those same errors in the future, thereby helping them to improve their writing skills over time.

The university’s Writing Centre is still available to your students. Tutors typically focus their feedback on areas such as essay structure, integration of research sources, academic integrity, and development of ideas. Grammarly will join the Writing Centre’s collection of resources to refer students to for additional assistance with grammar and punctuation when these concerns cannot be fully addressed as part of a regular tutoring session.

Access to Grammarly Premium is provided by MacEwan University Library with the financial support of the Student Technology Fund.
