Following the new restrictions announced by the province on Tuesday, the university is providing an update on how these changes affect our community. It will be business as usual for those of us who have been working remotely, but there are several important changes that you must be aware of if you are on campus.
- Wear a mask or face covering at all times if you come to campus. The new provincial mask standard requires that masks or face coverings be worn at all times in all indoor public places, except when working alone in an office or a safely distanced cubicle or a barrier is in place.
- Do not gather with colleagues or students on campus. All indoor and outdoor gatherings – public and private – are prohibited by the new public health orders.
- Employees who still work on campus should work remotely. Exceptions are employees whose duties sustain critical and essential business activities on campus. Please speak with your manager or dean if you have any questions.
- The John L. Haar Library will be closed as of 7 p.m. on Friday, December 11. Online services like Library Chat and Scan on Demand will be available during regular hours. See the Library website for more information.
- The Centre for Sport & Wellness will now remain closed for in-person activities until January 18, but will be offering online fitness and wellness programs.
- Plans are being made to limit access to buildings after next week. Details about these plans will be released as they are finalized.
Our plans and approach for the Winter term align with and exceed the province’s guidelines for post-secondary institutions, and classes will start on January 6 as scheduled. We will continue to be responsive to changes and balance the competing demands and new challenges that present themselves. We are also committed to keeping you informed. More information will be distributed by email and posted on MacEwan.ca/Coronavirus as decisions are made.
Thank you for continuing to adapt to these constantly changing circumstances and for helping to bend the curve of the spread of COVID-19.
Dr. Annette Trimbee
President and Vice-Chancellor
