Join Deborah Willis, author of Girlfriend on Mars, MacEwan’s 2024/25 Book of the Year, for two special events: Author Talk and a Book Reading.

Author talk – Nurturing our Gifts: Writing, Community and Continuing on in the Anthropocene

Date: March 21
Time: 10-11 a.m.
Room: 11-430, Allard Hall

After parenting her daughter through summers of wildfire smoke, author Deborah Willis faced increasing discomfort with her motivations as an author. In this talk, she attempts to honestly encounter her personal privilege and to question capitalist narratives of productivity and accomplishment—then to search for values and motivations suited to the Anthropocene, and to find the active hope and gentle resilience required to continue on as a writer.

Book reading, Q&A and book signing
Date: March 21
Time: 5:30-7 p.m.
Room: CN Theatre (Building 5)

Join Deborah Willis for an intimate reading of Girlfriend on Mars and Q&A session about her writing process and the book, moderated by MacEwan’s 2024/25 Writer in Residence, Jenna Butler.

Books will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be served.
