To ensure the safety of everyone on campus, should a fire alarm sound, stay calm and follow these guidelines.
What do I do when I hear the fire alarm?
- Listen to the announcements and follow the instructions provided.
- Proceed to the nearest exit and avoid using the elevators.
- Cooperate fully with instructions given by MacEwan staff and Security Services.
- Extend a helping hand to anyone in need if it’s safe to do so.
- Go to the nearest muster point, ensuring entrances and exits remain unobstructed.
- Wait for the ALL CLEAR from Security Services before re-entering a building.
What if I can’t evacuate my space?
- Call 911 and then call Security Services. Provide them with your location.
- If you are in a room and cannot exit due to fire or smoke, close the door and use material such as clothing to seal the door and air vents.
How should I respond when the fire alarm is heard in the parkade?
- If you’re inside your vehicle when the alarm sounds, turn off your engine, exit your vehicle, and proceed to a muster point on foot.
