As part of our ongoing efforts to improve cyber security with MacEwan University, ITS just implemented a new security feature in Microsoft Outlook. Safe Links, which was available in Teams and the web version of Outlook, is now enabled in the desktop version of Outlook and provides advanced protection against email-based security threats. This extra security step is vital to protect our network and sensitive data.

What is Safe Links?

Safe Links is a powerful security feature that automatically scans and rewrites links in incoming emails, passing them through Microsoft’s security filters to block potentially harmful links.

Key Benefits:

  1. Enhanced Email Security: Safe Links protects against known and emergent threats, ensuring safe email interactions.
  1. Real-Time Link Scanning: links within emails are checked in real-time for immediate threat detection.
  1. Phishing Protection: Safe Links helps prevent phishing attacks by blocking access to suspicious links.

Expectations:

You may notice slight changes in the appearance of links within emails.

Stay Vigilant:

While Safe Links strengthens our defenses, cybersecurity remains a shared responsibility. Please report any cyber security concerns via the MacEwan Help Centre.

Thanks for your help and cooperation in protecting ourselves from cyber threats.
