The provincial election is scheduled for May 29, 2023 with the election period expected to begin on May 1. In accordance with the Elections Act, as a public agency, MacEwan must abide by specific restrictions during this time. It is important that the university is – and is seen to be – non-partisan during all political campaigns: municipal, provincial and federal.

As employees of the university, we all have a responsibility to ensure MacEwan remains non-partisan and to protect the reputation of the institution. The university has developed a set of guidelines to assist employees in understanding their responsibilities related to:

  • the use of university resources and property in connection with partisan political campaign activities;
  • employee involvement in partisan political activities in the workplace;
  • display of election signage; and
  • advertising and communications during a provincial election period.

If you have any questions about the guidelines, please contact me at vladickat@macewan.ca.

At any time during the year, if you have planned interactions with elected officials or senior bureaucrats from any level of government, please share this information with the Government Affairs Office to raise awareness about the activity to ensure it can be coordinated with other activities and to champion the engagement, as appropriate, in other ways.

Thank you for your support.
