Today marks the beginning of MacEwan University’s Sexual Violence Awareness Week, an annual opportunity for us to come together in learning and in dialogue about sexual violence, and to affirm our commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive campus community.
This year’s dynamic program of events is designed to open up critical conversations about the root causes of sexual violence, promote skill-building and create spaces to honour the healing and resilience of survivors.
On Tuesday, October 4, everyone is welcome to take part in a memorial walk through campus in recognition of the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.
We invite each of you to get involved and join the many critical conversations that will happen during this week. And while we know that open dialogue about sexual violence is crucial for fostering a consent culture, these conversations have the potential to bring up difficult or unexpected emotions. MacEwan’s Office of Sexual Violence Prevention, Education and Response provides support and information for those who have been impacted by sexual violence. We encourage you to take advantage of the services they offer, this week and beyond.
Sincerely,
