Invitation from the president: State of the University address – Sept. 20

We acknowledge that the land on which we gather in Treaty Six Territory is the traditional gathering place for many Indigenous people. We honour and respect the history, languages, ceremonies and culture of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit who call this territory home.

The First People’s connection to the land teaches us about our inherent responsibility to protect and respect Mother Earth. With this acknowledgement, we honour the ancestors and children who have been buried here, missing and murdered Indigenous women and men, and the process of ongoing collective healing for all human beings. We are reminded that we are all treaty people and of the responsibility we have to one another.

I’m so delighted to welcome everyone back to campus on this first day of classes. I love the energy of a new term, and I look forward to the creativity and discovery we’ll all experience over the next months.

Over the past year, we have begun to implement the five key directions of Teaching Greatness: Strategic Vision 2030. As we celebrate our return to campus, I’d like to invite you to join me on September 20 at 10:30 a.m. in the Triffo Theatre for a State of the University address.

The address is an opportunity to reflect on our tremendous progress and the future we are creating together. By building on our strengths, we are setting the bar for exceptional undergraduate education.

Please take a moment to RSVP. I am optimistic and excited about the future of MacEwan University, and I look forward to sharing the successes of our community. I hope you’ll join me.
