Syncing files to your computer (i.e. File Explorer or Finder) adds an extra step of complexity that will often cause files to not properly sync to SharePoint. The trick is to work in the browser, where you are working directly with the file stored in SharePoint.

While editing files in SharePoint defaults to the web version of the Microsoft apps (e.g. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), you can still work in the desktop app without the need of syncing the files to your computer.
