Takam Market, Edmonton’s newest food hall is now open in Robbins Health Learning Centre. “Takam,” taken from the Filipino language means “to crave.” It’s something one would say to friends when deciding on a place to eat. In other words, Takam means to let one’s tastebuds lead the way.
Founded by local restaurateurs and Filistix founders Ariel del Rosario and Roel Canafranca, Takam brings some of Edmonton’s favourite food makers and purveyors together under one roof. For now, Takam will house the pair’s flagship, FIlistix and Sosyal Scoops—a new scoop shop evolved from Yelod’s popular ice cream food truck. Delicious Ayco Bakery pastries are also available. Additional local vendors will be added this fall.
Del Rosario, a MacEwan alumnus, says “It’s great to return to MacEwan! We want to take this opportunity to give back to one of the institutions that helped get us to where we are today!”
Canafranca and del Rosario are pioneers in Edmonton’s food truck scene and have operated highly successful fast casual concepts at both MacEwan University and University of Alberta campuses. In 2019 they opened Filistix Downtown, which was listed as one of Edmonton’s best new restaurants.
Canafranca says, “Food halls are the next food truck. They’re very trendy right now. We’re excited to contribute again to the Edmonton food scene and hope to establish Takam Market as the next destination spot for the MacEwan community and food lovers across the city.”
Takam Market’s hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
