Did you know that the SAFE@MacEwan safety app has a WorkAlone feature?

Working alone requirements apply when individuals are working by themselves and assistance, in the event of an injury, illness or emergency, is not immediately available. An example is when someone is working before or after building hours alone. This feature will automatically check in on you and can trigger a call to Security Services if you fail to check in via the app at the scheduled intervals.

Here’s how it works:

  • Get the SAFE@MacEwan app – Download the SAFE@MacEwan app from either the App Store (iOS devices) or Google Play (Android devices) and be sure, when prompted, to enable location services and push notifications.
  • Log in with your MacEwan credentials (SSO).
  • Start the WorkAlone session – When you start the session, provide the requested information, including contact details, work location, expected duration on campus and check-in frequency.
  • Check in (as prompted by the app, at scheduled intervals).
  • End the session – When you have finished, cancel the session via the app.

If you do not have a mobile phone, please call Security Services dispatch at 780-497-5554 to advise them you are working alone.

If you have any questions regarding the WorkAlone feature, please don’t hesitate to contact the Office of Emergency Management at oem@macewan.ca.
