I am writing to provide an update on the university’s COVID-19 response program for faculty and staff. Over the past weeks, our focus has been on encouraging our students to upload their proof of vaccination or rapid test results, and on verifying the thousands of submissions to the Safe@MacEwan app. My most sincere thanks to the many individuals who successfully took on this important work.

Thanks also to everyone who has uploaded their proof of vaccination to the Safe@MacEwan app. As we continue to implement our plans to safely bring our staff and faculty back to campus, we remind you that vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself and our community from COVID-19 and the severe outcomes of the disease. If you haven’t received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, we strongly encourage you to do so.

The university’s approach to vaccination and testing requirements is designed to support a safe working environment. Over the coming weeks, further details about these plans will be made available, including specific information for those who work in open areas such as the University Service Centre (USC).

Requirements for employees coming to campus
All employees coming to campus must use the Safe@MacEwan app to upload proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test completed within the last 72 hours. This standard will be in place for employees through the Fall and Winter terms.   Any individual who cannot be vaccinated based on physical disability, mental disability, religious beliefs or other protected grounds is eligible to apply for an accommodation by contacting their Employee and Labour Relations Consultant.

Requirements for guests on campus
If you invite guests to join you on campus as speakers, to a meeting or for a presentation, they will be required to show you an Alberta Health Services issued proof of vaccination or a negative rapid test result. This information does not have to be uploaded into the Safe@MacEwan app. Guests must also wear a mask or face covering on campus in accordance with the university masking standard.

Once again, thank you for doing your part to help keep our campus safe. If you have any questions about the university’s COVID-19 response, please submit them here.
