It is with great sadness that we share with you the news that Sherrill DeMarco passed away on June 22, 2021.

Sherrill started as an instructor in the Alberta College’s Conservatory of Music in 1968 and retired in 2010. Her contribution to MacEwan’s music, theatre and performing arts community is profound. Sherrill was an accomplished singer who performed internationally and MacEwan’s community benefited from her years of experience and star quality. She sang with the Edmonton Civic Opera Company and the Edmonton “Pops,” and did radio spots on CFRN and CBC. She debuted a production of Rigoletto for the San Francisco Opera and toured internationally. Sherrill was inducted into Edmonton’s Arts and Cultural Hall of Fame at the Citadel Theatre.

Sherrill was a life-long student who was quoted as saying, it doesn’t matter when you start singing, “You’re only too old if you want to die not doing the things you’ve always wanted to do!”

The generations of MacEwan’s community who benefited from Sherrill’s contributions are grateful she chose to share her knowledge. We are thankful to have Sherrill as part of the MacEwan community and grieve her loss.
