I am pleased to announce that Dr. Christy Raymond has been appointed Dean, Faculty of Nursing, effective June 1, 2021.  Dr. Annette Trimbee, President of MacEwan University, made the appointment after a lengthy, national search conducted by Katherine Frank, partner at Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette. Dr. Raymond will serve an initial term to June 30, 2026.

Dr. Raymond will take up a faculty position as Professor in the Department of Health Systems & Sustainability. She returns to MacEwan after four years at the University of Alberta, where, amongst other responsibilities, she was Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs in their Faculty of Nursing. Dr. Raymond’s expertise in curriculum development and scholarship of teaching and learning is a complement to her learner-centered approach to post-secondary education. Recognized provincially and nationally for her leadership skills and for her work with students, Dr. Raymond is also an accomplished researcher whose current project is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

Because of the pandemic, we were obliged to conduct this search through the online tools with which we have all grown more familiar over the past twelve months. As a result, an unprecedented number of MacEwan community members were able to engage with Dr. Raymond, and I am grateful to all of you who took the time to participate. I am optimistic, in light of the tremendous goodwill shown her through feedback to the recruitment process, that she will lead the Faculty of Nursing with your overwhelming support as MacEwan develops further as Edmonton’s downtown university.

I am grateful to the members of the search committee that I chaired in this process. Colette Foisy-Doll, Lisa McKendrick-Calder, Dr. Brian Parker, and Jessica Wyllie ably represented the Faculty. Anastasia Makovey was the voice of Nursing students. Valuable perspectives from the rest of the University were provided by Dr. Wanda Costen, Dean of the School of Business; Cassie Prochnau, Interim Associate Vice-President, Students & Teaching; and Ron Rooth from the John L. Haar Library.
