Skepticamp 2025

Monday, October 27 | Student Session: 2–4:50 p.m. | Evening Session: 6–8:30 p.m. | Room 7-276, MacEwan University

Free and open to the public.

Skepticamp is coming back to MacEwan!  The event features student presentations, guest speakers and the Student Psychology Network’s annual Halloween Talk.

This year, there are two sessions of presentations.  The first block is in the afternoon and will feature presentations from students in PSYC 441: Separating Sense from Nonsense.  The student portion (2-4:50 p.m.) includes presentations on topics such as conspiracy theories, haunted tourism, pseudoscientific health trends and the psychology of magic.

The evening session (6-8:30 p.m.) brings together leading figures in the skeptic community, including Adrienne Hill, Kenny Biddle and Kat McLeod. Their talks explore myths and mysteries surrounding the Winchester Mystery House and real-life ghost investigations.

The event concludes with “Manufacturing Fear: The Psychology of a Good Scare,” Dr. Rodney Schmaltz’s annual Halloween presentation. Dr. Schmaltz explores why people pay to be terrified, what happens in the brain when we experience fear and how psychology can help us understand why being scared sometimes feels so good.
