Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that the President has appointed Dr. Edvard Lorkovic to an initial five-year term as Deputy Provost at MacEwan University. He will continue to hold his concurrent faculty appointment in the Department of Humanities.
This new administrative role was created for the unique structure of our evolving Academic Affairs portfolio, as our institution continues to grow at a remarkable pace. Dr. Lorkovic has the background and experience to facilitate collaboration and cooperation across our Faculties and Schools, as well as other units led by Academic Associate Vice-Presidents. Over the course of nearly twenty years at MacEwan, he has established himself as a thoughtful teacher, a trusted colleague, and a steady leader whose contributions have shaped both his discipline and the wider University.
Since arriving at MacEwan in 2006, Dr. Lorkovic has served as Philosophy Coordinator, Chair of Humanities, Interim Dean of Arts and Science, and most recently Interim Deputy Provost.
As Deputy Provost, Dr. Lorkovic will work closely with me to pursue the goals of Teaching Greatness. During his interim appointment, he helped us focus on the measures from our institutional dashboard through which we define progress on our strategy. He will also oversee key areas rooted in the Provost’s Office, such as Athletics, Academic Quality Assurance, and Faculty Development, while representing the University on committees and with our external partners.
The President received the recommendation to appoint from a committee assembled earlier this year. I would like to thank for their service Dr. Khalaf Al-Jarrah, School of Business; Dr. Craig Kuziemsky, Associate Vice-President, Research; Dr. Carla Lam, Faculty Development; Stacey Martin, Provost’s Office; Lindsay McAlpine, Athletics; Isabella Nikolaidis, Academic Quality Assurance; Dr. Christy Raymond, Dean of Nursing; and Allie Spenrath, Student Representative.
The committee was assisted by Helen Ngan-Paré, Associate Vice-President, Human Resources, as it worked through more than two dozen applications from qualified candidates from across Canada.
Dr. Lorkovic’s formal appointment will begin immediately.
Craig
