This year, we are introducing tiers to the Chancellor’s Research Chair program. Please note that any past recipient of a Chancellor’s or Board of Governors’ Research Chair will be considered a Tier 2 recipient.
Tier 1 Chancellor’s Research Chairs support faculty who have reached the title of professor, or who are expected to be promoted to professor within the Chair’s term; at least three years have passed since the end of their term as a Tier 2 Chair; and they are now considered well-established scholars with international recognition in their field. Tier 1 chairs have a term of three years.
Tier 2 Chancellor’s Research Chairs support tenured faculty members that show potential for exceptional scholarly distinction and can present an original and innovative scholarship proposal that describes an existing research program and how it could be enhanced by a Chancellor’s chair. Tier 2 chairs have a term of two years.
The funding allocated to the Chancellor’s Chair Program has also been increased. Tier 1 Chairs get a $30,000 research stipend. Tier 2 chairs get a $10,000 stipend.
