Current status – August 6 

Elevator #10 located in Building 5 completed modernization and was reopened on July 30. It will be closed again for three days from August 12 to August 14 to address a deficiency.

Elevator #4 located within north-west corner of Building 6 will close on August 15 for 5 weeks and will reopen on Sept 18.

Due to code requirements, elevator 8 serving the library’s 2nd and 3rd level (next to spiral staircase) will close from Sept 19 to Oct 9 pending a final test involving all 10 elevators.

Background: Elevator closure in Buildings 5, 6, 7 and 8

The 10 elevators in Buildings 5, 6, 7 and 8 are original to the buildings and built in 1993. Their control system are obsolete and parts are no longer available. This project will replace the control system while simultaneously upgrade the elevators to meet the City of Edmonton’s current code.
