I am incredibly proud to announce the latest honorary doctorate recipients as part of MacEwan University’s Spring 2025 Convocation ceremonies.
Beverley McLachlin, Bernie Makokis and Linda Wedman will each be awarded a Doctor of the University, honoris causa, and address graduates at the ceremonies.
Beverley McLachlin is Canada’s first woman – and longest-serving – chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. Justice McLachlin has heard and adjudicated some of our country’s most important legal cases.
Bernie Makokis has spent decades as a trailblazer in Indigenous education and public policy, and he has positively impacted thousands of lives in the process.
Linda Wedman is a leader in Edmonton’s arts and culture scene and has been involved in many public art projects, including the Works Art & Design Festival and the Neon Sign Museum.
I am incredibly pleased that these individuals have accepted an honorary degree from our university. Their commitment to their communities and professions is inspiring.
Recipients will speak to graduates at our convocation ceremonies next week:
- Beverley McLachlin will speak on Tuesday, June 17, at 9:30 a.m.
