MacEwan Residence Services had another record year of residents, and with that came another record year of donations in April. While moving home for the summer, residents participated in one last community initiative and donated 4,357 pounds of gently used items to Goodwill. Rather than ending up in local landfills, these items will go on to new homes. Some of these items have even found new homes right in residence, as residents staying over the Spring/Summer term were able to find items that would be of use to them before Goodwill picked up the donations.
Residence Services also partnered with SAMU and collected non-perishable food donations, which filled an entire moving bin.
Global Shaper Edmonton also stopped by and picked up gently used clothing to be used at their fourth annual clothing swap event.
We are always looking for local community initiatives to help during our move-outs with clothing, household or food donations. If your department is ever in need of an area to partner with, reach out to residence@macewan.ca.
