On November 19, the Academic Integrity Office will host a panel discussion with faculty members from various disciplines will explore how AI tools can both aid and hinder the development of critical thinking skills and learning. Moderated by Paul Sopcak, academic integrity officer, the panel includes Ozlem Cankaya (Human Services and Early Learning), Sarah Copland (English), Eric Legge (Psychology) and William Schultz (Sociology). The panel will share how they approach the challenges and possibilities that the advent of generative AI tools in postsecondary education has brought to their teaching.

The event is meant to provide an impetus to cross-disciplinary discussions on this topic across campus that include ethical considerations, academic and degree integrity, as well as concrete strategies to integrate AI into your teaching and minimize inappropriate use of GenAI tools. A video message by Janice Kenney (Earth and Planetary Sciences) will kick off the event and ample time will be reserved for a general discussion.
