MacEwan is only the second host of this monumental pop-up exhibition from the Canadian Museum of Human Rights and the Purge Fund. We welcomed the exhibition to campus with a community conversation on October 8. The pop-up exhibition will be in the library until November 8. We are continuing the momentum of hosting this new exhibition with a workshop on 2SLGBTQ+ activism at the end of the month.
Love in a Dangerous Time: Canada’s LGBT Purge Pop-Up Exhibition
This pop‐up exhibition speaks to decades of human rights violations against 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians who wanted to serve their country and the brave activists who fought back. It is designed to educate and inspire Canadians to help create a future in which the rights of all 2SLGBTQI+ people are respected. The aim is to raise awareness of this little‐known history and to inspire new generations to rise to today’s challenges. We hope that this exhibition will be a fitting tribute to their lives and legacy.

2SLGBTQ+ Activism Yesterday and Today Workshop
Exploring the history of 2SLGBTQ+ activism in Canada, this workshop encourages participants to look at discrimination that continues in 2SLGBTQ+ communities and the urgent need to protect the rights of people of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. The objective is to learn empathy and learn how they can protect the rights of diverse 2SLGBTQ+ people in Canada today.
This 90-minute workshop developed by the Canadian Museum of Human Rights will include the reading of a queer text together, a presentation and Q+A session led by a 2SLGBTQ+ activist, and a Promoting Pride activity.
October 30, 5-6:30 p.m. in 7-269. Open to students, staff faculty, and the community – please register here.
