Along with many other libraries, MacEwan Library currently pays the University of Alberta to manage some of our library system. In 2023, the University of Alberta announced its plans to terminate that system and our agreement with them. We went through a competitive search process for our new library system, which resulted in us purchasing a suite of software that will optimize the library’s searching and lending.

What’s changing:

  • Borrowing from the University of Alberta – after November 11, items may temporarily take a bit longer to arrive as we migrate to our new library system on December 11.
  • Library Search and the library website – on December 11, the website navigation and content will become more user-friendly and you will be able to pull results from more universities across Canada.
  • Inter-Library Loan – starting December 11, 2024, borrowing from other libraries across Canada, including the University of Toronto, will be as easy as a click of a button in most cases. The turnaround time for scanned chapters and articles from other universities is always under 24 hours, and sometimes, instant. Physical items will arrive within eight days.
