The MacEwan Anti-Violence Education Network (MAVEN) volunteers within the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention, Education and Response (OSVPER) are now accepting art submissions for our Reclaiming Power: The Art of Radical Love and Self-Expression art gallery. The gallery will be open from October 7 to 11 during MacEwan’s Consent Action Week.

We welcome ALL MacEwan students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members to submit their artwork for display! We accept art from all different mediums, including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fashion, recorded music or spoken word, cartoons and short stories. Art should centre around themes concerning sexual violence, reclaiming power and radical love. We encourage artwork that addresses the systemic roots of sexual violence. If you are unsure if your work fits this theme, please submit it anyway! All applicants will be given the option of submitting their work confidentially. Artwork can be taken from school projects or personal work and does not need to be recent. Additionally, pieces of art previously submitted to last year’s gallery will also be accepted.

This gallery aims to engage with the MacEwan students, staff, faculty, alumni and the greater community to spread awareness about the systemic nature of sexual violence while celebrating the love, resiliency and healing journeys of those who have experienced sexual violence in varying capacities in a safe space.

To submit an application for art to be displayed in the gallery, complete this form by Sunday, September 15.

Early submissions are encouraged! If your work is accepted, you will be notified, and arrangements will be made for it to be displayed in the MAVEN’s Reclaiming Power: The Art of Radical Love and Self-Expression art gallery during MacEwan’s Consent Action Week.

Please spread this call for submissions widely amongst your networks!
