January 4, 2024 marks the second-annual National Ribbon Skirt Day.

The day was created in response to a young First Nations student being told their ribbon skirt wasn’t deemed formal enough for a school event. This day acknowledges the importance of cultural identity, strength, pride and connection as Indigenous people.

To acknowledge this significant day, kihêw waciston and the MacEwan Library are collaborating to bring awareness to the MacEwan community by housing displays in their respective spaces. Both kihêw waciston and the Library will have ribbon skirt displays along with interactive posters that will provide information about the ribbon skirt and what it represents.

Information will be shared through kihêw waciston’s social media channels and links to other resources are available here.
