From the President: Provost’s reappointment

We acknowledge that the land on which we gather in Treaty Six Territory is the traditional gathering place for many Indigenous people. We honour and respect the history, languages, ceremonies and culture of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit who call this territory home.

The First People’s connection to the land teaches us about our inherent responsibility to protect and respect Mother Earth. With this acknowledgement, we honour the ancestors and children who have been buried here, missing and murdered Indigenous women and men, and the process of ongoing collective healing for all human beings. We are reminded that we are all treaty people and of the responsibility we have to one another.

I am very pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr. Craig Monk as Provost and Vice-President, Academic. Dr. Monk’s new term officially commences July 1, 2024 and will extend to 2030. I want to thank the review committee and community members who provided feedback.

As Provost and Vice-President Academic, Dr. Monk is an influential figure in the evolution of our university. He is a key member of our leadership team. His exceptional academic and administrative leadership have been instrumental in MacEwan’s successful transition to a premier undergraduate university. And, more recently, he has been central in developing and implementing the university’s bold strategic vision of Teaching Greatness.

I am thrilled to work with Dr. Monk as he continues to play an essential critical role in keeping up the incredible momentum that MacEwan is experiencing. I am confident that he will continue to make meaningful contributions to our institution’s ongoing growth and success.
