A worldwide festival of short plays about the climate crisis presented biennially to coincide with the United Nations COP meetings is coming to MacEwan University for the first time! 

Date: Wednesday, Nov. 22,  4 p.m.
Location: Tim Ryan Theatre Lab, 2nd floor,  Allard Hall

Presented in collaboration with the University of Alberta, Department of Drama, the event will feature readings of four of the short plays followed by a brief panel discussion about Climate Change and the Arts with scholars from both universities. 

The plays will be directed by Doug Mertz, assistant professor in Music Theatre Performance at MacEwan and performed by actors from both universities, including Eli Yaschuk and Kit Brooks from MacEwan’s Music Theatre Performance BFA program and Rowan Andruik and Spenser Kells from the U of A’s BFA Acting program.

The panel includes MacEwan Studio Arts faculty member Dr. Erandy Vergara-Vargas, Sheena Rossiter, head of media production and assistant professor in the Department of Communications and, from the U of A, Professor April Viczko, drama department chair and Dr. Stefano Muneroni, associate professor of intercultural theatre. 

The featured plays are: Nachtflug by Nathan Ellis (Germany), Magical Fungi in Times Square by Chantal Bilodeau (United States), The Polar Bears by Nicolas Billon (Canada) and Cassandra Drowning by Nathan Joe (New Zealand). 

The presentation is being put together by Doug Mertz and Dr. Stefano Muneroni.
