Dear Colleagues,
Further to my email of August 16, I wanted to let you know that Dr. Allan Gilliland has given notice that he will step down from his position as the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Communications on June 30, 2024.
I am grateful for all Allan has done for the Faculty and for the University in this chapter of his extraordinary career, and I look forward to all that he will continue to do as an instructor and a composer (and more) in his role as Professor—and Dean Emeritus—in the Department of Music.
In accordance with University policy, I will chair a nine-person committee to make a recommendation to the President on the appointment of his successor. I have already written to faculty and staff in Fine Arts & Communications to announce that KBRS (formerly Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette) will assist us in the recruitment. While this is to a large extent a FFAC matter, there may also be an opportunity for interested tenured faculty from across campus to participate on the committee. I would be very grateful if any eligible Faculty Association member willing to help out in the search would write me at provost@macewan.ca by Monday, September 11.
While my own reappointment is handled by the Office of the President, the Provost’s Office will manage two senior academic administrative searches and two senior academic administrative reappointment processes during the 2023/24 academic year. I am grateful for your support and assistance in this period of leadership renewal in Academic Affairs, and I rely on your participation and feedback over these next few busy months.
Dr. Craig Monk
Provost & Vice-President, Academic
