On March 13, 2023, MacEwan University is opening enrolment to fourth-year returning students. At the same time, we will activate the virtual waiting room called Queue-it. This functionality will limit the rate at which students are able to access the Manage Classes tile in myStudentSystem during peak enrolment periods. Limiting the rate of access to this tile will ensure that our resources are not overwhelmed by a significant number of students visiting it at roughly the same time to enrol in classes.
Once a student enters the queue, they can continue to navigate around myStudentSystem, or even log out entirely without their position in the queue being affected. Once they get to the front of the queue and gain access to the Manage Classes tile, they can navigate to other pages or even log out entirely and then gain immediate access to the Manage Classes tile again without having to rejoin the back of the queue.
If a student accesses the Manage Classes tile after the initial surge has concluded and the number of new visitors is below the queue’s rate-limiting threshold, they will be taken to the Manage Classes tile immediately without even seeing the queue.
A communication will be sent to students on March 10 explaining the queueing system.
