If you’re on campus and a fire alarm sounds, always treat it as if it were a real event requiring evacuation:
- Remain calm, listen to the announcements and follow the directions provided
- Proceed to the nearest exit – do not use the elevator
- Follow instructions from floor wardens and/or Security Services
- Assist anyone that needs help if safe to do so
- Go to the nearest muster point – keep all entrances/exits clear
- Do not go to the parkade for your car – if you are in your car when the alarm sounds, turn off your engine, leave your car and exit on foot
- Wait for the ALL CLEAR from Security Services before re-entering a building
If you are unable to evacuate:
- Call 911 and Security Services and tell them your location
- If you are in a room and cannot exit due to fire or smoke, close the door and use material such as clothing to seal the door and air vents
