What’s NameCoach?

For some members of our university community, pronunciation can be awkward or embarrassing, while for others, it is even more significant. NameCoach rolls up all elements of this matter and provides a solution that improves engagement for everyone. I am thrilled that we can make use of this technology at MacEwan.

— Dr. Craig Monk, Provost, and Vice-President, Academic

NameCoach is an important tool in support of MacEwan’s commitment to maintaining an inclusive and accessible learning environment. It enables students and instructors to learn the names of others in their course easily and more accurately, and it alleviates the challenges and negative experiences with name mispronunciation.

— Tim Tang, Associate Vice-President, Students

What’s in a name?

Our names are an important part of who we are. Pronouncing a name correctly can help create an inclusive learning environment and help maintain a sense of belonging at MacEwan.

Let’s make MacEwan a more inclusive and accessible learning community!

NameCoach is now available in MacEwan’s digital learning environment. Faculty and students are encouraged to use NameCoach to learn the names of others in their course. In a few easy steps, instructors can add NameCoach to their mêskanâs courses and once it is added, faculty and students can record how to pronounce their names as well as hear how other’s names are pronounced.
