Faculty scholars: Your feedback is important!
Please share your comments, suggestions, and/or feedback on the institutional research data management (RDM) strategy on or before August 12, 2022. We also encourage you to invite your colleagues in your department and in your faculty/school to review the document and contribute comments.
Background
Research data management (RDM) encompasses the processes and practices applied throughout a research project to guide the collection, documentation, storage, and preservation of research data. Responsible research data management practices ensure that research data is complete, understandable, and securely stored.
The Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy, finalized in March 2021, includes the following new research data management requirements for institutions and grant holders.
- Institutional Strategies
By March 2023, post-secondary institutions eligible to administer Tri-Agency funds are required to develop and make public an institutional strategy for research data management. - Data Management Plans
As of spring 2022, an initial set of funding opportunities have identified that researchers are required to submit data management plans at the time of application. - Data Deposit
There is currently no date set for the phase in of a data deposit requirement. Eventually, all grant recipients will be required to deposit all digital research data, metadata, and code that directly supports research conclusions in disseminated work that results from Tri-Agency supported research.
Library Services and the Office of Research Services have collaborated to develop a draft institutional strategy and have worked with a steering committee, composed of Office of General Counsel, kihêw waciston, Library Services, Information and Privacy Office, Office of Research Services and Information Technology Services.
Previously, feedback was sought from faculty members via a survey sent out in April and May, and through a brown bag event hosted by the Office of Research Services in May. This faculty consultation is intended to seek the input and feedback of faculty members on the draft version of our institutional strategy before we share it with our MacEwan and external community.
It is important to note that this is a living document and therefore will reflect any developments and changes as we increase our RDM capacity.
