Injuries and pain are a part of life, but they don’t have to be. Utilizing appropriate assessment and treatment tools, an athletic therapist can help individuals return to work or play faster.
Athletic therapy services are offered on campus. These services are available to MacEwan University students, faculty and staff, as well as Sport and Wellness members and the public.
Athletic therapists assist in the prevention, immediate care and reconditioning of musculoskeletal injuries. Therapy can include evaluations, proper equipment selection, warm-up and conditioning programs, as well as specialized taping. They are qualified in the treatment of acute orthopedic injuries such as sprains, muscle strains, previous fractures, post-surgery and concussions, as well as chronic conditions like tendinitis, low back, neck and shoulder pain.
Many insurance companies, including MacEwan’s, cover athletic therapy either directly through your health plan or through your health spending account.
Athletic Therapy can also be covered through Access to Learning Funds. The Athletic Therapy at MacEwan is located in the Christenson Family Centre for Sport and Wellness, 8-125. Call 780-497-5492 or email athletictherapy@macewan.ca to book an initial assessment.
