MacEwan University’s fifth annual Sexual Violence Awareness Week will take place from October 4 to 8. This annual initiative is an opportunity for learning, dialogue and community-building, as we work to foster a culture of consent on campus.
This year, we are inviting the MacEwan community to get involved by contributing to our Voicing our Values photo project. Consent. Respect. Support. Empathy. Courage. We believe that these values are the foundation for building a world without sexual violence, and we want to hear why they matter to you! Visit our website to submit a photo to this initiative.
This year’s keynote dialogue on October 6 is titled Gender, Empire, and Islamophobia: Sexual Violence of the War on Terror. From anti-hijab legislation to ongoing violence again Muslim women, the War on Terror continues to manifest along race, gender and class lines all around us. Join Dr. Sara Grewal in conversation with Iranian-American writer and community organizer Hoda Katebi to dive into these nuances and explore how to build intersectional movements toward systemic change.
