1. Create a question pool and add exam questions into the pool BEFORE creating a test.
While you can create an exam first in your Blackboard course and immediately add questions to it, once you delete the exam, the questions will also be deleted. However, if the test questions are stored in a question pool, the questions will be retained in the pool even if the initial exam is deleted.
2. Randomizing answers and questions help to discourage cheating.
Did you know you can randomize the answers to the exam questions AND the order in which the questions are displayed to students? For example, with matching and multiple-choice questions, you can ensure the answers are displayed in a randomized order, so the correct answer will appear in a different order for students. In addition, you can also ensure the entire exam is displayed to students with a different sequence of questions.
3. Grade all questions at once instead of grading one exam at a time!
When you are grading students’ exams, you can go through each student’s exam one at a time, BUT did you know you can grade all students’ answers to one exam question instead? This allows you to focus on one question and get an overview of how the entire class is responding to the question before you move on to the next question.
