While the Alberta government has allowed libraries to reopen in Step 2 of the reopening plan, the John L. Haar Library will remain closed in preparation for Phase 2 of renovations. Pending any further COVID-19 restrictions and construction delays, the library is set to reopen for the start of classes in September.

The Technology Support area of the Library (Building 6, second floor) will remain open until April 23. They will then relocate to 7-288 on April 26 until the library reopens. While the rest of the Library remains closed, online services are still available, including Scan on Demand, Library Chat and Writing Centre Tutor appointments. A temporary Library Takeout pickup location is in 7-292 (the old SAMU offices), where you can pick up holds and ID cards or get assistance with your library account and fines.

In Phase 1 of renovations, the staircase leading up to the third floor in Building 6 was removed to create a large reading room with more study spaces for students. In Phase 2, construction will focus on building a consolidated service desk on the second floor that will include Library Services, research help and Technology Support. Two exciting additions to the library will be new spaces for the Makerspace and Writing Centre. More details about the renovations will be shared on the library’s website.
