Adding captions to your videos or lectures will make them accessible to many different learners. You can use mechanical captioning to your videos or use a live captioning reporter during lectures.
Mechanical captioning
Access and Disability Resources (ADR) can assist you by providing a text-based .srt file to add to your Kaltura video. This tutorial shows you how to add the SRT files to your video.
Kaltura offers a mechanical captioning service that lets you order captions. This tutorial shows you how to order the captions.
For accuracy, it is always best to review the captions for potential transcription errors and this tutorial shows you how to view and edit the captions, if needed.
Live captioning
Students with hearing impairments often work with a Communication Access Realtime Transcription (CART) reporter for live captioning during lectures. Blackboard Collaborate has a Captioner role that will ensure you give the CART reporter the necessary access and ability to provide their services. To learn more, see this short video.
