Maintaining a healthy physical and mental state is affected by one’s metabolic rate. To some degree our Basal Metabolic Rate (i.e., Terra-WorkoutBMR, the minimum amount of energy required to maintain normal body temp.) is genetically determined, however there are ways to invigorate a lethargic BMR.

Individuals with a high lean body mass (muscle) will burn calories more efficiently than those with less lean body mass. The following list of lifestyle changes will help increase lean body mass and in turn elevate one’s overall BMR:

  • Avoid strenuous diets. Eating less than 1,200 calories per day can decrease your BMR by as much as 30%.
  • Consume several small, well-balanced meals and plenty of fluids throughout the day.
  • Engage in daily bouts of exercise (strength and cardiovascular training).
  • Deal with stress before it affects your daily functioning. Consider getting a massage, surrounding yourself with aromatherapy or taking a kickboxing class.
