During the week of April 12 to April 16, MacEwan successfully stopped a cyber attack on our network caused by a compromised credential used in conjunction with myApps.MacEwan.ca. The attack was contained before any significant damage to our services, and based on our investigation, no personal information was accessed by the perpetrator.

In 2019, MacEwan adopted a new password standard which requires longer, more secure passwords and therefore does not require frequent password changes. Out of an abundance of caution from this recent incident, however, MacEwan ITS will require a one-time password change for all users.

All faculty/staff and student passwords will expire on May 31, 2021. MacEwan Single Sign On will begin reminding you of this upcoming expiry in the next day. If you allow your password to expire you will still be able to change it with our self-service password management in myPortal.

For faculty or staff working remotely on a MacEwan Windows device please follow these additional steps after your password change:

  1. If you are not already connected, establish a VPN connection using your new password.
  2. Lock your computer. Windows menu -> User name -> Lock
  3. Unlock your computer with your new password.

Please contact MacEwan Tech Support if you have any questions or concerns.
