Griffins’ weekend review: Women’s hockey ties record
Jaime Erickson played hero in three-on-three overtime as the MacEwan Griffins women’s hockey beat the Red Deer College Queens 4-3 in their final game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon. Taking a feed from Jill MacWilliam in front, Erickson slipped the puck through Karlee Fetch’s legs for the winner with 1:08 left in the second overtime. With that result, MacEwan tied the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) women’s hockey record for most wins in a season with 21, now sharing the mark with the 2010/11 Mount Royal University Cougars.
The victory also extends MacEwan’s ACAC record winning streak to 14 games in a row. Read the full story here.
“Really proud of this group,” said Griffins head coach Lindsay McAlpine. “All year they found a way to win in various situations and I think it was kind of a great way to end this year.”
MacEwan (21-3-0-0) now heads into a bye week before embarking on their quest for a fourth-straight championship when they open the playoffs against either SAIT or Olds College on February 27.
