I grew up working in the film and TV industry here in Alberta. My first paid job was when I was 12 years old and voice acting on a series of radio plays that were part of a three year multi-platform project (radio, film and print). At the time, the terms “new media”, “digital storyteller”, “transmedia” didn’t exist in our industry.
I run a production company called Reel Girls Media. My work is also my hobby. I love what I do. With each project I get to meet new people and learn new things.
I produced the serious game “Murder or Suicide” and worked with police officer and blood spatter expert, Joe Slemko.
When I travelled to China, I directed a film that tells the story of the power of friendship and the work of two scientists who return to China to help to save the environment.
When I travelled with the military to Afghanistan when I directed and produced a one hour special for Global TV that told the stories of five soldiers and their families from pre-deployment until their return.
In Tokyo, Japan I received the Japan Prize and I have since been back four times to serve on their jury.
I teach in the Design Studies Program. In addition to teaching, I am also a “digital storyteller” , creating and producing transmedia (telling a story across multiple platforms) content.
